I am building a car with custom tweeter pods in the A-pillars. My question is can I cover the pillars with head liner material or other type of fabric, or will I have to texture and paint the pillars once the pods are complete?
Thanks in advance,
Will

I have done a few tweeter pods and in my experience I can never make a faux texture match well enough to satisfy my eye. Headliner material is a decent choice. Speaker grill cloth usually comes out looking A++. On my latest ones I am going to wrap with vinyl. I already tried it once with bad results because of the glue I used. I now have the proper glue (Landau Top Glue) and will be giving it another go in a few months. The vinyl matches exactly the texture and color of my interior. If it doesnt stick this next time then I will go back to grill cloth. Good luck with whatever you choose.

You can't use anything that your car didn't come with from the factory. If your pillars were wrapped from the factory then you can wrap them. If they weren't, you can't.

You can cover you pillars with headliner material in Modified and up Sq classes.

Just noticed the title of the thread. Oops

Where is this in the rule book? I can not find anything more than you are allowed to mount tweeters on your A pillars.

From Stock rules

C) Modifications or upgrades to a vehicle’s interior, exterior, engine, or related components do not necessarily move a vehicle to a higher class unless those modifications or upgrades are done to improve the sound quality system beyond the limits outlined in the Verification Criteria

From Street Rules

A step up from Stock Class, Street includes Competitors that still choose not to modify their vehicle’s interior or overall aesthetics for sound quality purposes, but allows a little more flexibility with installation and equipment.

2. Tweeters may be flush, surface, or custom mounted in pods designed to provide a factory look to the install.

Anything covering added to the pillar that does not come from the factory would change the sound signature of the vehicle therefore could be seen as trying to improve the sound quality by reducing reflections or absorbing certain freqencies.

I would agree with using headliner material, but if a person vinyls the A pillars and if they retain a factory look it should be street. The rules do not say about using any other material that does not come from the factory. Tweeters may be flush, surface, or custom mounted in pods designed to provide a factory look to the install.

Sorry at first I misunderstood the question. I am with you...I don't see how anyone could say that vinyl on your A Pillars is in any way "improving" your sound quality. I also find it very hard to believe that someone could even say grill cloth would be improving your sound quality either as long as it's not covering your speaker and is only there for asthetic reasons. That would be very very far fetched.

The key is that it must retain the FACTORY look. If you REWRAP your A Pillars then its not factory, but it you mearly cut a hole and surface mount or flush mount some tweeters than you should be ok.[/quote]

I would think if your b and c pillars and headliner are Wrapped to match and you then added a tweeter to the A pillar that should keep you in stock class? If you meet all the other criteria.
